Barkan receives Cabernet grapes from Mitzpeh Ramon in the South to Dovev on the Lebanese border. Some of the Cabernet finds its way into our generic blends, but most is used in varietal wines. We have seen potential for premium Cabernet in new areas such as the Judean Hills and Mitzpeh Ramon, but in the last years we based our premium Cabernet on fruit from the Galilee.
For our “domaine” Series, with its emphasis on wines that are enjoyable while young, we have chosen fruit from Tabor in the Lower Galilee. For our “Classic” Series, we have chosen fruit from the Upper Galilee and Golan. These same vineyards are the source of our “Reserve” and “Superieur” Wines. Here selection plays its role, where the finest wines destined for Reserve and special bottling are given more time in fermentation, and longer aging in the best barrels.
Last year, we launched our Altitude Cabernet Series. Individual barrels from Vineyards from different altitudes were selected to create these gold and silver medal winning wines.
Thus Barkan is ready to produce a wide variety of styles of Cabernet Sauvignon- from popular mass market wines for easy drinking to the massive and complex wines at our top end which will improve with the years in the bottle. |
